Bei der letzten Mission (Lion´s Den) mussten wir herbe Verluste hinnehmen. Wie vom Hauptquartier befürchtet, lauerte der Gegner uns auf und ließ die Falle zuschnappen. Auch wenn wir kaum Jets durch die relativ starke Boden-Luft-Abwehr verloren haben und sogar ein SA-11- und ein SA-10-Bataillon außer Gefecht setzen konnten, überraschten uns einige MiG- und Su-Patrouillen mit ihren langreichweitigen Heatern. Schließlich gab es noch eine Kollision in der Luft zwischen zwei IDS-Tornados. Das Hauptziel, die Untergrundforschungsanlage bei Pec, konnte ebenso wie das östlich gelegene Kraftwerk nur beschädigt werden. Immerhin wurde die Armeebasis im Westen, wie auch das 50 Meilen weiter nördliche Koordinationszentrum fast vollkommen zerstört.

Die aktuelle Lage:
Zwei Black Hawks aus Lecce werden südöstlich von Ivangrad um TOT 20:47 einige in der letzten Mission ausgestiegene Piloten, mit denen wir inzwischen Funkkontakt herstellen konnten, aufnehmen. Als Wegbereiter dienen Apaches, da direkt hinter der Grenze feindliche Truppen operieren.

Unsere ursprünglich geplante Landeoperation zwischen Dubrovnik und Tivat müssen wir vorerst aufgeben, da der kürzlich 50 Meilen südlich von Tivat in Stellung gezogene serbisch-montenegrinische Flugzeugträger den Bereich dominant abdeckt. Momentan konzentrieren wir uns daher mehr auf unsere leichten Truppen im Norden von Albanien, die eventuell demnächst eine zweite Front erzwingen könnten. Bis jetzt ist Albanien jedoch offiziell den Konfliktparteien gegenüber neutral eingestellt, auch wenn uns Albanien zudem noch Überflugrechte gewährt.

Zur Mission Barn Owl (Schleiereule):
Beobachtungsposten im gebirgigen Grenzgebiet Nordostalbaniens haben berichtet, dass unmittelbar nach unserem letzten Lufteinsatz bei Pec Konvois in Richtung Ivangrad und Sjenica unterwegs waren. Ein Teil der Güter wurde bereits auf Transportmaschinen verladen, die nach Ohrid flogen. Bilder eines Überwachungssatelliten belegen, dass einige An-24 dort gelandet sind und momentan wohl eher in den größeren Hangars stehen. Weitere An-24 sollen laut Aussagen von Informanten gegen 20:45 ebenfalls am Ohrid Airport eintreffen.
Es erhärten sich somit die Vermutungen, dass es sich bei dem geheimen Projekt der Pec-Forschungsanlage um eine neue Aufklärungstechnologie handelt, da Ohrid - obwohl abseits der erwarteten Kampfhandlungen - ein ungemein zentraler Überwachungsstandpunkt wäre, falls Albanien in den Krieg eintritt.

Das US European Command (EUCOM) hat daher folgende Ziele für die Mission Barn Owl vorgesehen:
Eine hohe Priorität haben anfliegende An-24-Transportmaschinen auf Ohrid Aiport, aber auch die Hangars, das Radar und der Radioturm, damit eventuelle Prototypen und relevante Technik zerstört werden. Die Bombardierung der Landebahn würde eine zukünftige Versorgung von Ohrid Airport mit kriegswichtigem Material sichtlich erschweren.
Die Untergrundfabrik sowie das Kraftwerk bei Pec im nördlichen Zielgebiet gelten nicht als Sekundärziele, sondern gehören mit zu den Primärzielen, um zu gewährleisten, dass eine weitere Entwicklung und Produktion von serbischer Aufklärungstechnologie unterbunden wird.
Aufgrund der Wichtigkeit dieser Mission besteht das Package vornehmlich aus Stealth-Flights. Der Mission-Commander wird Hornet52 sein.

Der Wind weht mit 9-11 Knoten etwa aus Richtung 245 Grad. Bis kurz vorm nördlichen Zielgebiet dürften klare Sichtverhältnisse herrschen, dann ist aber mit einer durchgehenden Wolkendecke auf etwa 5000 Fuß Höhe zu rechnen. Beide F-117 wurden daher mit den neueren EGBU-27B/B bewaffnet. Die Enhanced GBU-27 (EGBU-27) ist eine verbesserte Version der normalen, lasergeführten GBU-27. Durch den Zusatz eines GPS-geführten Trägheitsnavigationssystems ist die Bombe in der Lage, mit hoher Genauigkeit das Ziel zu treffen - selbst bei schlechter Witterung wie z.B. durch Wolken und Nebel hindurch. Dabei muss ein vorher einprogrammiertes Ziel im Area-Modus aufgeschaltet werden.

Noch ein Hinweis: Bitte benennt die Datei "validAC.bin" im Balkans2010-Ordner um, damit ihr andere Flugzeugtypen fliegen könnt, und macht euch vor allem mit eurem Flugzeug vertraut. Teilweise gibt es erhebliche Unterschiede in Bezug auf Start, Flugeigenschaften, Treibstoffverbrauch, Auftanken, Radar, EWS, Waffensysteme, Landung und natürlich auch den Ausmaßen. Immerhin beträgt der Wert der 12 Flugzeuge dieser Mission ca. 2,8 Milliarden US-$. (Zum Vergleich: Von dem Geld könnte man etwa 149 F-16C kaufen).

TGT: An-24s, protect package elements from enemy aircraft

During the last mission (Lion´s Den), we had to accept huge losses. The enemy established an ambush as feared initially by our HQ. Albeit we have lost only a few jets due to the relatively strong air defense assets - even a SA-11 and SA-10 battalion were put "hors de combat" by our SEAD - some MiG and Sukhoi patrols surprised us with their long range heaters. Finally, there was a mid-air collision between two of our IDS Tornados. The main target (the underground research facility in Pec) was only damaged, like the power plant located east of the site. After all, at least the western located army base as well as the coordination center 50 miles further north were almost completely destroyed.

The current situation:
Two Black Hawks are on their way from Lecce Airbase to a place southeast of Ivangrad (TOT 20:47) to rescue some pilots which bailed out during the last mission. Apaches serve as pathfinders because hostile forces operate right behind the border.

For now we must abandon our originally planned landing operation between Dubrovnik and Tivat due to the 50 miles south of Tivat recently positioned Serbian-Montenegrin carrier which is covering the area dominantly. Currently we are concentrating more on our light troops in the north of Albania in hope to force a second front line there. Until now, however, Albania officially takes a neutral part between the conflicting parties even if Albania also grants overflight rights to us.

The mission Barn Owl:
Observation posts in the mountainous border area of northeast Albania have reported that immediately after our last air operation near Pec convoys started towards Ivangrad and Sjenica. A portion of the cargo has been loaded on transport planes which flew to Ohrid. Images from a surveillance satellite prove that some An-24s landed there. For now we expect the airfreighters in or near the larger hangars. According to statements from informants further An-24s will arrive also at Ohrid Airport at about 20:45.
Therefore the assumptions substantiate themselves that the secret project of the Pec research facility has something to do with a new reconnaissance technology, as Ohrid - although far away from the expected front line - would be incredibly well-placed for reconnaissance purposes if Albania is willing to entry into the war.

The U.S. European Command (EUCOM) has set the following objectives for the planned mission Barn Owl:
Arriving An-24 cargo planes at Ohrid Airport have a high priority, as well as the hangars, the radar and the radio tower, in order to destroy any prototypes and relevant technology. The bombing of the runway would certainly hamper future military-related supply for Ohrid Airport.
The underground factory and the power plant in Pec at the northern target site are not considered to be secondary targets but are among the primary targets to ensure that further development and production of Serbian intelligence technology will be prohibited.
The package consists primarily of stealth flights due to the importance of this mission. Hornet52 will be the mission commander.

The wind blows with 9-11 knots more or less from direction 245. Clear visibility conditions should prevail until the northern target area - there is a solid cloud deck at about 5000 ft MSL to be expected. For this reason both F-117s were armed with the recent EGBU-27B/B. The Enhanced GBU-27 is an improved version of the normal, laser-guided GBU-27. With the addition of a GPS-guided inertial navigation system the bomb is able to hit the target with high accuracy - even in bad weather conditions such as clouds and fog. For a proper function of this system a pre-planned target has to be locked in the so called "area mode".

Another note: Please rename the file "validAC.bin" in the Balkans2010-folder to be able to fly other types of aircraft, and make yourself familiar with your airplane prior to this mission. Sometimes there are significant differences in terms of take-off, flight characteristics, fuel consumption, refueling, radar, EWS, weapons systems, landing and last but not least the size. Keep in mind: The 12 aircraft of this mission have a value of about US$2.8 billion. (For comparison: With this amount of money 149 F-16Cs could be bought).
